A Little Teaching And A Little Dragon

I started playing DnD with a new group and after we got our characters created and played a practice fight for everyone who's new to the game/edition, I was asked by my buddy and his fiance to paint her miniatures for her. The model above is her familiar, a miniature about the size of my thumb nail; this was a fun challenge. In addition, that same friend came over for a bit and painted his fig with a few tips I gave him along the way. Pictures after the break.

Cephalyx and DnD Progress

Just a quick update this time around. I've got some finished products for both my new Cephalyx army I've started and a couple of new figs I picked up for DnD. For Cephalyx I've got the Subduer completed with a Secret Weapon Miniatures base and for DnD I've finished my (tanky) wizard and his familiar. Photos after the jump.

I'm Back!

It's been quite a while since I've posted on here, but I'm happy to announce I will be moving back to this blog over the coming days. How often I post is another story, but I find myself wanting my old blogging home back. So, with my return, I've posted some of the more major backposts from over at STC in the posts before this one. In addition, this post will include everything I've been up to during my absence (I haven't been blogging much in general, hopefully this will help me play catch-up.)

Secret Weapon Markers and Hairspray Rust Technique

(Originally posted on 6/30/14) A quick post today. At Adepticon this year I picked up some of Secret Weapon's objective markers while in the same day taking a weathering class from Privateer Press' own Matt DiPietro. In the weathering class I decided these markers would be my first venture into the hairspray technique for rusting.

A Zombie Wedding

(Originally posted on 6/16/14) I have a large pool of fantastic friends around this area, though with awesome friends comes a certain level of unconventionality. Or just plain weird. No shame in it, I'm a pretty weird dude. I've seen, heard and done many weird things in my life; not much surprises me. Until last month when some friends of mine that are getting hitched soon wanted me to do the cake topper for their wedding... A zombie cake topper. Who the hell ever gets asked to do that? No one, that's who. So below is a brief explanation of the process I used to turn an odd cake topper into the stuff of nightmares.

CSM Cultists Complete

(Originally posted on 4/23/14) I started this army...a while ago, with this very unit. That was back in 2012, right after the new CSM book came out. I put this project on hold after the 6th or 7th model in this unit to pursue Warmachine and then abstract canvas painting (I even got into a gallery, whaaaaat?). But it's April of 2014, over a year later and I've got the 40k itch back. So while I was at Adepticon I purchased the rest of what I needed for my army (the list has changed for a millionth time, but that's a post for another day.) So when I got home from Chicago I immediately went to work and I'm proud to say the Cultist unit is completely finished and ready for play. Now they just need the rest of the army to be built and painted... Anyway, picture dump time!

Look What I Did: 2013

(Originally posted on 1/7/14) It's a new year ladies and gents! And while I'm excited to get some things started I think it's important to take a little time to look back on all things in life, even the hobby. So while projects are coming, I want to take a bit to reminisce on 2013 and all that happened to me during that time.

Nax Balatro

(Originally posted on 12/3/13) There has been a lot of non-40k going on with me lately. And with all of these rulebooks flying by every month it's easy to take a step back from the game while GW catches up on rules (which should have happened a long time ago). In the meantime I'm having a great time with WMH and (if you didn't read the title you're going to be shocked...SHOCKED!) DnD.

Convergence of Cyriss

(Originally posted 10/3013) In my last post I mentioned that I had started a new project that was a little more to my liking after finishing the nightmare that was Scyrah (and fear not, I'll be moving back to 40k for a bit before you know it). For now, though I'm involved in a slow-grow league with some of my gaming buddies, meaning that each month we increase our army size by a certain amount every month while at the same time playing against one another gaining points via pre-planned rules. It's really enjoyable, especially with a game like Warmachine where one model can cover your month of work. Anyway, the army I really wanted to play was Cyriss and after finishing Scyrah it was time to work into them. Below is how I went about making these guys my own, but I must warn you that after a new-camera mishap, over half of the pictures I took have been lost. I'll try and fill in the gaps, though.

Scyrah Complete

(Originally posted 10/18/13) Aaaaaaand boom. I'm finally finished with this project and...words can't really express how much joy that brings me. Screw Scyrah, screw white paint, screw this project! Note that I typed that with a smile on my face. Anywho, time for me to show off the last model and oddly enough the most fun to paint; Eiryss. I finally got to step away from white paint on this model because of her Mercenary-like status. Above is the final shot of this 15pt army (which will not grow any further than this,) and below, the last model. Pictures after the jump.

Quick Basing Tip

(Originally posted 9/25/13) Just a quick update for some of the simplistic techniques I used when getting through my Scyrah battlegroup. The first one is for basing. With the Scyrah, seeing as how I hate this project and wanted it to be over quickly, I found that grass and dirt would be one of the quickest basing routes I could take. However, the perfectionist in me wanted to do grass and dirt correctly; I wanted footprints in the ground and grass surrounding the feet of those walking on it because...well, it's grass. More after the jump.

Progress on Scyrah

(Originally posted 9/17/13) Just a quick update on my Retribution army. As some of you may know, I'm very excited to finish this project so I can get started on others. What you may not know is that I'm very much enjoying finishing up this army, especially now that I'm on the last model and I've made some headway on my airbrush talents. First, the last two models require little to no white paint (thank jeebus). Second I've found the miniatures-sweet-spot I've been attempting to get to for over a year as far as dilution, PSI and airflow all finally matching up to where I want them. More on that in a later post. For now, I'll show you what's been accomplished. Pictures after the jump.

Look What I Did: 2012

(Originally posted on 12/12/12) It looks like it's my turn to share. Wow, what a year. We've laughed, we've cried, we've finally collectively discovered Martin Freeman. But enough about emotions and acting genius, let's talk shop. This year saw the release of 6th Edition, Chaos Space Marines and Necron players such as myself still chuckling to themselves after years of praying for a tie as we now poop whatever Necrons poop on their enemies. I'm going to guess it's Gauss bars or something, I don't know. All of this rules talk for most of the year has really hit me with a hard realization; I'm caring very little for the game and very much for the hobby as time goes on.
